59 shops gutted in Bandarban fire

A fire at Balibazar in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban destroyed dozens of shops early Wednesday, causing damage to the tune of around Tk4 crore.

The blaze started at the local Nilgiri hotel and soon spread to nearby shops, but 59 out of 150 shops there had been gutted by the time two firefighting units and locals brought it under control.

Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abul Mansur said the fire had resulted in a loss of Tk4-5 crore, adding that measures would be taken to provide relief to the victims.

A massive fire razed 200 shops in the same area on April 27, 2020.
