7 villages on Naikhongchhari border become deserted

Seven villages under GhumDhum union of Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari border have become almost deserted as people left homes amid panic.

A shelter place has been opened at Government Primary School in south GhumDhum.

Confirming the matter, ward no 5 member Anwar Hossain said hundreds of members of 40 families took shelter at the centre. Some went to their relatives’ homes.

Meanwhile, amid the tense situation, deputy commissioner has ordered to take 240 families from Naikhongchhari border to safe place.

The public representatives of the union parishad are working to bring locals to emergency shelter centre as per the directives of the deputy commissioner.

While visiting Naikhongchhari border, Deputy Commissioner Shah Mujahid Uddin said all schools in the border area will remain shut till the situation is under control.

Two people were killed in the clash between Myanmar army and the insurgent group inside their country. After that, a tense situation prevailed.
