The Border Guard Bangladesh has recovered the body of a man who was shot dead, from a paddy field near the border with India in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

The body of Sadikur Rahman, 35, was found beside a paddy field and sent to an area hospital for autopsy on Sunday morning.

It had been turned over to the police, BGB 59 Battalion chief Lt Col Golam Kibria said.

“No BSF firing was heard in the border area. We did not open fire either. We believe Sadikur died after being shot during a clash between smugglers.”

An investigation would reveal how Sadikur had actually died, Shibganj police station OC Chowdhury Zobayer Ahmed said, adding that more details would be given later.
