Man held with gold worth Tk 15cr in Panchagarh

Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) detained a suspected smuggler along with 19 gold bars, worth over Tk 15 crore, along Prodhanpara border in Panchagarh sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The detainee was identified as Md Jewel, 32, son of Afsar Ali of the Madhupara village under Harivasa union of the upazila.

Commander of BGB-56 (Nilphamari) Lt Col Md Asaduzzaman Hakim informed this a press briefing on Sunday. He said a team of the border force conducted a drive near main pillar 755/4 of the area and detained Jewel with 19 gold bars, weighing 19.30kg.

During the drive, they also seized a motorcycle, a mobile phone set and cash Tk 25, 000, he said adding that the detainee was handed over to Panchagarh Sadar Police.

The process of filing a case is underway , said Abdul Latif Mia, Officer-in-Charge of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station
