In what could be termed as an alarming recovery, the Chhattisgarh police on Friday recovered a Heckler & Koch G3 Rifle used by NATO and Pakistan army. This is the second time when the forces combating the red rebel in its heartland Bastar, found a foreign make gun after an encounter.

In an overnight gun battle, the Chhattisgarh police killed four Maoists and recovered two dead bodies of ultras in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on Friday.

The recovery of arms and ammunition post the encounter, which broke out under Tadoki Police Station limit in the forest range of Murnar, alerted the top rank of the police which visited the Maoists infested district and narrated its massive success.

The police team recovered two SLRs and one 303 rifles from the spot along with the dead bodies of Maoists. But the alarm bell was rung when they found the sophisticated G3 rifle.

“Our jawan bravely fought with Maoist which were at least 11 in number. While we have recorded two dead bodies, we suspect few more have been hit by our bullet. The recovery of arms also confirms it. We have recorded G3 rifle used by the Pakistan army and this is second such recovery in the region, said DG Naxal Operation DM Awasthi while briefing the media persons about the operation.

Sources say recently top Maoists Supreme commander Nambala Keshava Rao aka Basavaraj, who has taken over the CPI (Maoists) as their general secretary, visited the tri-junction of Jharkhand, Odisha and Bengal and appointed Patiram aka Anal, Maharaj and Amit to strengthen the organisation in the region.

Earlier on May 28, the Maoists had killed 11 jawans including eight COBRA commandos in a land mine blast in the district.
