A heavy gun battle has been reported between Security Forces and militants of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Reformation, NSCN(R) at Tinsukia, along the Assam-Arunachal border near Pangsau 28th September (Saturday).

According to reports, the operation to clear the militant outfit cadres is still on. It was operational since early morning.

A cadre of the NSCN (R) has reportedly been killed during the gun battle.

It may be mentioned that a cadre of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim, Reformation, (NSCN-R) rebel outfit was apprehended at Assam’s Dima Hasao district on September 10.

A joint operation was launched last night by the district police, along with personnel of the 11 Assam Rifles in Bagetar area. During the operation, an NSCN (R) cadre named Hainamteung Newme (aged 36) was nabbed. Newme is a resident of P Paisa village in Dima Hasao district.

Moreover, on August 29, the NSCN(R) fired its Defense Kilonser cum, Khekato Kinny and Deputy Kilonser, Chingshi Longkumer, for their alleged involvement in a gunfight in Dimapur in which Lt Col Toishe Yeptho of the NSCN (IM) was killed.
