Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed Freedom Fighter Abdul Hamid Cantonment in Kishoreganj.

At 11am in the morning, the prime minister reached Mithamoin upazila in Kishoreganj.

Following the inauguration, the prime minister planted a tree sapling in the cantonment area. The Abdul Hamid Cantonment is built on 275 acres of land.

The prime minister will visit the president’s residence in the district’s Kamalpur later in the day.

At around 3pm, the premier will attend a public meeting organized by Awami League at the district’s Helipad Ground.

The entire district, including Itna, Mithamain, and Austagram upazilas have been decorated in anticipation of the prime minister’s long-overdue visit. She visited the district last in 1998.

Locals report that 25 years ago, when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last visited Mithamain, there were no roads or transportation available in the area nor any infrastructure or development projects.

However, in the past 14 years under the Awami League government, extensive development has taken place in the region, including the construction of roads and highways, they added.
