Veer Lachit Sena leader and anti-CAA movement crusader Shrinkhal Chaliha on 2nd February (Sunday) opined that the leader of the non-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom’s (ULFA) should join the peace parlays with the Government.

“It is the call of the hour…it is an opportunity. They (ULFA) should learn from our Bodo brethren, the ULFA should learn from the Bodos. Political rights, land rights, Inner Line Permit, resource rights….the ST status to communities….they should take that from the Government”, said Shrinkhal, during an anti-CAA protest in Upper Assam.

It may be mentioned here that the Assam Government has already appealed Baruah to join the peace talks, which is nearing its final stage, according to ULFA leader Anup Chetia as well as the interlocutor AB Mathur.

“Around Bohag Bihu, the Government is getting ready to relay rich news to the people of Assam. Eagerly, we await the coming of the recommendation of the high-powered committee of the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. Moreover, Home Minister Amit Shah has also clarified that the recommendations will be pondered upon with positivity by the Centre. Now, I call upon ULFA Chief Paresh Baruah to join the peace talks after the signing of the Bodo Accord, so that peace can prevail in Assam”, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.

Assam BJP state President Ranjeet Dass, too, has urged the armed militant group to sit for peace talks with the GoI. This development came merely days after the signing of the tripartite Bodo peace talks which the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed as “historic”.
