Celebration of International Indigenous Day at UN HQ

Chandra Kalindi Roy-Henriksen, Chief of the Secretariat of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) had an active effort to celebrate International Indigenous Day on 09 August 2019. There was Commemoration program at the United Nations Headquarters.
It is to be mentioned that Mrs. Chandra Kalindi Roy-Henriksen is a Bangladeshi advocate on the rights of indigenous people and a member of the Chakma royal family from the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Roy is married to Norwegian Sami lawyer John Bernard Henriksen. She is the elder sister of Chakma Circle Chief Mr. Debashish Roy.
Renowned writer, researcher and Executive Director of Zabarang Kalyan Samity Mr. Mathura Bikash Tripura delivered a speech highlighting the importance of indigenous language and its present state in Bangladesh.
