Armed Forces Defuse IED on Independence Day in Manipur

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was discovered in a ditch between the Khonghampat hill slopes and National Highway 102, about 200 meters from Khonghampat state orchid gate, under the Sekmai police station in Manipur, was deposed of by a team of Manipur Bomb Detection and Disposal squad and Assam Rifles.
The discovery was made while the state was getting ready for the 73rd Independence Day celebrations, with the main function being held at the 1st Manipur Rifles campus, Imphal, capital city of Manipur.
The explosive weighing around 1 kg was detected by the Assam Rifles patrolling party on Thursday in the morning.
The bomb squad experts who rushed to the spot said that the IED was placed inside a steel tin fin. Later, it was defused on the spot at around 9:30 am because it was inconvenient to remove the bomb from it spot. It is not yet known who and why placed the explosive. So far, no underground outfit has claimed responsibility for the placing of the powerful explosive.
It may be recalled that on July 13, an IED was discovered at the gate of the Imphal Public School, Canchipur near Manipur University (MU) and it was removed by the bomb experts. Later, it was defused at Kyamgei Loukon, near the Manipur University.
