News Desk:

The first CCTV-recorded visuals from the August 20 encounter between two factions of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim – the NSCN (IM) and NSCN (R), have recently started doing the rounds on social media.

CCTV footage from the August 20 encounter between members of NSCN-IM and NSCN-R that took place at the Dimapur residence of Khekato Kinny, a self-styled supervisor-cum-defence ‘kilonser’ of the NSCN’s Reformation faction, in Dimapur, has been shared extensively on social media platforms.

In the video, the two factions can be seen exchanging fire with semi-automatic weapons. After the blood-curdling incident, the NSCN-R has alleged that it was an ‘assassination’ attempt on their leader.

The NSCN-IM, however, stated that its intention was not to kill the NSCN-R leader, and said, “There was no order to shoot Khekato (Kinny). But guilty conscience took control of Khekato who directed his boys not to entertain Col Khehoto in his house and in panic started firing from behind the gate forcing our boys to retaliate. The bullets whizzed past Col Khehoto’s head,” the statement said.

“During our investigation, we got hold of one of his men who spilled out Khekato’s involvement. To kill Khekato was not our mission. Had our motive been to kill him, we could have adopted other recourse that would not miss him,” the NSCN (IM)’s statement said.
