News Desk:

A joint team of Assam Rifles (AR) personnel and Arunachal Pradesh Police destroyed two suspected hideouts of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim, Isaak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) in separate operations on Sunday.

The operations by Assam Rifles personnel and police were launched based on specific inputs.

One hideout was destroyed in Jongrum and another was decimated near the Indo-Myanmar border. The security forces have also recovered huge cache of arms (including AK series Rifles, ammunition and other warlike stores) from these hideouts.

Sources said that the NSCN (I-M) insurgents used these camps for temporary stay during
transit.

It is to be noted that sustained operations are being conducted by security forces against the insurgent groups active in the region in order to wipe them out from the region.

It may be mentioned on May 21, 2019, suspected NSCN (IM) militants had gunned down Khonsa West’s National People’s Party (NPP) MLA Tirong Aboh along with members of his family while tensions were running high ahead of the Lok Sabha election results. The horrendous incident took place in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh while 41-year-old Aboh was returning to his constituency from Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

After the results were declared, it came to light that Aboh had won the election.
