News Desk:

A member of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) – Independent (I) was nabbed by security forces in a joint search operation at Kakopathar area of Assam’s Tinsukia district on Tuesday.

The arrested rebel has been identified as 36-year-old Ridip Neog, a resident of Chengapathar village in Kakopathar.

As per defence sources, a joint team of Indian Army’s Dao division and Tinsukia district police conducted a joint operation in the area after receiving specific inputs of possible bomb blasts planned by the banned outfit in parts of upper Assam. It is also informed that the outfit in an aim of reviving their decreasing influence in the region was also planning to carry out attacks on security forces.

Meanwhile, the joint team of security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the arrested cadre, including electronic detonators, explosives and mobile phones from his possession.

Significantly, the seizure of a large amount of explosives in Tuesday’s search and the series of apprehension of ULFA(I) cadres made by security forces in the earlier operations have struck a major blow to the proscribed group in the region. The successful operations conducted by security forces over the time have been a major relief for locals as it averted a major threat, saving many lives in the region.
