India appoints Vikram Doraiswami as new High Commissioner to Bangladesh

India has appointed Vikram Kumar Doraiswami as the country’s new high commissioner to Bangladesh.
Doraiswami, presently additional secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, is expected to take up the assignment shortly, the Indian government said in a statement on 13th August.
Doraiswami replaces Riva Ganguly Das, who will take over as secretary (East) at India’s external affairs ministry.
Doraiswami has earlier served as the Indian ambassador to the Republic of Korea. He was also posted in Uzbekistan. He joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1992. Before joining government service, he used to work as a journalist.
Doraiswami has a Masters degree in history from Delhi University. He can converse in Chinese and Urdu, and knows a little bit of French as well.
Doraiswami will replace Riva Ganguly Das, the 1986 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Das, who replaced Harsh Vardhan Shringla as the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, arrived in Dhaka on March 1 last year to take up her assignment.
She is likely to leave Dhaka in the first week of October.
