Indian Govt won’t compromise on sovereignty by talking with Paresh Baruah: Kiren Rijiju

The problem of insurgency has been a lingering issue in Northeast India for many decades and the Government of India, despite holding talks with the pro-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) has not been able to come to a solution with the rebel outfit.
Commenting on the peace talk process, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that the Indian Government would not compromise on its “sovereignty” by holding talks with the rebel Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah.
Moreover, the Union Minister, who represents Arunachal West Constituency, said the Government only recognizes the pro-talks faction led by Arabinda Rajkhowa.
“Paresh Barua has links with many underground groups who are against India. We cannot compromise on our sovereignty,” he added.
ULFA General Secretary Anup Chetia, in an exclusive interaction with InsideNE, commented on Rijiju’s statement. “Kiren Rijiju has said the right thing that the Government would only give importance to the pro-talks faction. The independent ULFA who are dwelling in jungles and are yet to come into the peace talk process. Thus, being a Minister of the Indian Government, he cannot talk with them”, he said.
