Naga talks: IRBn unit heads told to keep 2-month stock of rations

News Desk
With a crucial meeting underway to end the ‘deadlock’ to the Naga peace talks between the Centre and the NSCN (IM) in New Delhi on 24th October (Thursday), the Nagaland Police, in a significant development, has reportedly asked the unit commandants of Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) to keep at least two months stock of rations in view of the “fluid” situation in the state.
The “WT message” has gone viral on social media.
The State Armed Police Forces of India are the police units established for dealing with serious law-and-order situations requiring a higher level of armed expertise than normal. The State Armed Police Forces exist in addition to the ordinary police services of the various states.
The directive from the Inspector General of Police (ABns-IR), Nagaland assumes significance considering the present situation relating to the peace talks in Nagaland. Apart from the NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah, Naga peace talks interlocutor and governor of Nagaland RN Ravi are also participating in the meeting in New Delhi, among many others.
The WT Message (bearing No.IG/ABns-IR/CON-10/2019-20/232, dated October 24, 2019) was sent to commandants of NAP (IR) BN no 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.
EastMojo tried to verify the authenticity of the WT Message with the Nagaland Police. However, the state police is maintaining a silence over the issue for now.
In separate directives, issued recently, the Nagaland government has already asked its employees not to make any statements or views/opinions in the press, social media, public meetings, etc, criticising its policies and actions.
The state government also asked all deputy commissioners, additional deputy commissioners, sub-divisional officers and extra-assistant commissioners to remain at their respective places of posting and within their jurisdiction till further orders.
“It is further directed that in case of extreme emergency, the written permission of the chief secretary be obtained before leaving station,” a WT message said, adding: “In case of officers who are already on leave, not on medical/maternity leave should be recalled.”
Meanwhile, sources in the Union home ministry have already said that the government of India has set a deadline of October 31 to conclude the process of talks with the Naga rebel groups. The Centre has also made it clear that the demand of separate flag and constitution would not be accepted.
