Japan says it is “deeply concerned” over Monday’s military coup in Myanmar and called for the release of State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other government figures who have been detained. Tokyo said: “The Japanese government has up to now strongly supported the democratic process in Myanmar and opposes any reversal of that process.”
