2 KNA operatives killed in Bandarban army operation

News Desk
Two members of the Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA), including a commander, were killed in an army operation in remote hills of Ruma upazila in Bandarban early Thursday.
During the operation, army personnel recovered three sub-machine guns (SMGs), one rifle and ammunition.
The drive is still underway in the area, said an ISPR media release.
When contacted about the matter, Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sohrawardy said that several army units conducted an operation in the Poli Prangsa area of Ruma upazila early today. During the operation, a gunfight broke out between the army and the KNA (Kuki-Chin National Army). Afterward, a search of the area led to the discovery of two bodies.
“It is believed that one of the deceased is a KNA commander. We’ve heard that the bodies are lying there. There’s no mobile network in that area. Upon receiving the information, two army teams and one police unit have headed to the scene,” he said.
The operation is still ongoing, and further details will not be available until the teams return, he added.
However, according to Aminul Islam Bacchu, president of the Bandarban Press Club, the security forces will hold a press conference on the matter at the Ruma Army Zone on Thursday afternoon.
Over time, facing operations against the Kuki-Chin National Front and KNA, members of the Bawm community have fled in fear and panic, seeking refuge in the jungles and across the border in India’s Mizoram state. Recently, under the joint initiative of the Bawm Social Council and the Bandarban Army Region, they have started to return to their homesteads.
According to the Bawm Social Council, around 300 families have returned to the area. Various initiatives are reportedly being taken to address food shortages among the returning families.
