ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTED EX-SERVICEMEN RALLY AT DARJEELING, ON 28 MAY 2019

Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen (AR ESM) Rally was conducted at Darjeeling on 28 May 2019. Over 600 ESM, Veer Naris, other ladies and dependents attended the event.


The event was presided over by the Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, Sena Medal & Bar. It was also attended by Mrs Sangeeta Sangwan, President ASSAM RIFLES WIVES WELFARE ASSOCIATION (ARWWA), Col SP Yadav Col (Administration), Col Basnet from Records, Comdt Biju Director ARESA and Comdt Shyam Sundar from Assam Rifles. Civil Administration officials at the rally included Miss Mayuri Vasu, ADM and Sh Harikrishna Pai, Addl SP, Darjeeling.

In his address, the Director General highlighted that ESM of Assam Rifles continue to be an important constituent of the society and have humungous potential to make positive contribution towards nation building. He emphasised that the ESM are an ‘industry’ in themselves as they are a disciplined and well trained work force with rich experience in aid to civil authority, disaster management, intelligence gathering etc. He urged them to contribute positively in civil defence arrangement, societal upliftment and other nation building activities.

The Director General assured that ASSAM RIFLES will continue to redress the grievances of War Veterans, Veer Naris and ESM. Subsequently, the Chief Guest felicitated deserving Gallantry Awardees, War Veterans, Veer Naris, other ladies and disabled ESM.

Issues related to pension, health care, re-employment and other grievances were taken up at the event. The mega rally had a Pension Anomalies Cell, wherein the Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris, other ladies and dependents could register their grievances. A total of 100 cases pertaining to pension were resolved on the spot. Miss Manju Lata Thakuri D/O Sub (Late) Deo Kumar Thakuri of 7 Assam Rifles was paid family pension arrears amounting to Rs 9,23,362/- and Miss Rita Devi Rai D/O Hony/Lt (Late) Madan Lal Rai of 2 Assam Rifles was paid arrears amounting to Rs 6,71,211/-. Besides that, Wheelchairs, Walking Sticks and few mobile phones were distributed to the needy veterans.


A medical camp was organized on the sidelines of the Rally.

Smt. Sangeeta Sangwan, President ARWWA, also interacted with Veer Naris, other ladies and dependents and enquired about their well being. She re-assured them of the organizational support in redressing their grievances in a time-bound manner.
The ESM, Veer Naris, other ladies and dependents extended their heartfelt gratitude to Assam Rifles for taking good care of the Ex-Servicemen fraternity.
