At Least Six Army Jawans Feared Dead In Avalanche In Himachal, One Soldier Succumbs To Injuries

One Indian Army soldier was killed and five others are missing after a powerful avalanche hit the Shipki La pass along the China border in Pooh block of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

Two separate teams, the Army’s JK Rifles unit and ITBP were patrolling in Namgia-Dogri when the avalanche hit around 11 am.

While the ITBP personnel were rescued immediately by the search teams, five army men were buried under the snow.

One soldier who was recused succumbed to injuries in a local hospital.

“The body of one jawan had been recovered, whereas five bodies were yet to be traced,” Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Gopal Chand told PTI.
