Raisina Dialogue 2020

The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference held annually in New Delhi. Since its inception in 2016, the conference has emerged as India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics. The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation, an independent think tank, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

The conference is structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral discussion, involving a variety of global policymakers including heads of state, cabinet ministers and local government officials. In addition, the Dialogue also welcomes major private sector executives, as well as members of the media and academia. It is designed on the lines of Singapore’s Shangri-La Dialogue[1].

This year`s Dialogue titled `Navigating the Alpha Century` is structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectorial discussion, involving heads of states, cabinet ministers and local government officials as well as major private sector executives, members of the media and academics.

Over 700 international officials, of which 40% were women, participated in the event. Around 12 foreign ministers, including the foreign ministers of Australia, Maldives, Russia, Iran, Denmark, Africa, Estonia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, South, Uzbekistan and the European Union (EU), the National Security Adviser (NSA) of Afghanistan, the Deputy NSA of the United States and several other ministers of state were among others.

20th anniversary of partnership between India and Russia The year 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between India and the Russian Federation. Indian PM Modi also marked 2020 as the year of implementation of key decisions between India and Russia.

China’s assertive territorial claims in the South China Sea, through which a third of global shipping passes, have drawn rebuke from the United States and become a flashpoint for a region in which Southeast Asian nations Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei all have rival claims.

There were some significant outcomes from Raisina Dialogue 2020. ‘Green Strategic Partnership’ with Denmark foreign minister explored:

The Minister of External Affairs (MEA) of India Shri S.Jaishankar met foreign Minister of Denmark Jeppe Sebastian Kofod and held discussions on ‘Green Strategic Partnership’ between the two countries. The nationalist impulses challenging global institutions and collective action. The role of technologies in determining political. The debate on the global trading architecture, economic and military power. The global development agenda and the state-individual relationship in the age of digital communities and cyberspace.

Iran Minister Mr. Javad Zaraf  held commemoration meetings after Soleimani killing, US should understand our reach, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif says at Raisina Dialogue. He also asked if Iran was content with the position India has taken on the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, Zarif said “it should”, and added India is a “big country”.

Ministerial level delegates from 12 countries called on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at his residence on the sidelines of Raisina Dialogue. The foreign ministries were from Russia, Iran, Australia, Maldives, South Africa, Estonia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Latvia, Uzbekistan and EU (European Union).
