International Mother Language Day celebrated at Kamalanagar

Kamalanagar, February 21, 2020: The International Mother Language Day celebrated at Kamalanagar, the headquarters of Chakma Autonomous District Council today.
The Chakma language (Changma Vaj / Changma Kodha) is an Eastern Indo-Aryan language closely related to Bengali and spoken by more than 600,000 people in Northeastern parts of India, Arakan region of Myanmar and CHT region of Bangladesh. About half the Chakma speakers live near Chittagong in southeast Bangladesh, while the rest can be found in the states of Mizoram, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura in northeast India and Arakan region in Myanmar .
Chakma is written with an alphabet known as Chakma, Ajhā pāṭh or Ojhopath. It developed from the Brahmi script of ancient India.
Dg Rasik Mohan Chakma, CEM, CADC graced the programme as the chief guest. The programme was celebrated with power point presentation on ‘Chakma Folk Literature with a Focus on its Language’ by Prof. Dr Jyotir Moy Chakma, Associate Professor, Kamalanagar College. Students leaders recited poetries.
Senior political leaders and intellectuals were present during the programme.
