Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanmhati Samiti (PCJSS) President Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord was signed to establish the rights of the oppressed people of CHT but the rights of women are not being protected due to the non-implementation of the agreement.
The agreement mentions the rights and dignity of women, said Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, better known as Santu Larma.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the workshop on marriage registration of hill women organized by some development organizations including the non-governmental development organization ‘Progressive’ on Monday morning.
Women leaders including Chakma Circle Chief Barrister Debashish Roy also spoke at the event organized at Ashika Convention Hall.
Santu Larma also said, marriage registration is essential to establish women’s rights, a proof of marriage is very useful which is also part of women’s rights.
If the agreement was implemented, women would have regained their equitable rights, he added.
Santu Larma surrendered arms under an initiative the Awami League took on December 2, 1997, after a long armed struggle. The Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord was formally signed on the day.
