Police have launched a massive crackdown on Bangladeshi immigrants living in the Indian capital New Delhi. As part of this, a drive was conducted in Delhi’s Kalind Kunj area on Tuesday morning to identify Bangladeshis. Delhi Police said that about 1,000 Bangladeshis have been identified so far in the drive in the last few days.

Indian news agency ANI reported that Delhi Police conducted a search operation in the Kalind Kunj area of ​​the national capital on Tuesday in search of illegal Bangladeshis. A resident there said that the police asked the residents for basic information about their government identity cards and other things. During this, the police also questioned the residents on various issues.

He said, “So far, the police have conducted about 5 to 6 search operations. They have asked for information about residence and government identity cards. No Bangladeshis live here.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, Delhi Police arrested at least 11 people suspected of being involved in the illegal Aadhaar cards and fake documents being made available to Bangladeshis in the national capital. The arrested include Aadhaar card operators and technology experts involved in creating fake websites. Some of them are Bangladeshis.

Ankit Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner (DCP) of Delhi Police’s South Zone, said the accused helped Bangladeshi nationals by creating fake Aadhaar cards, voter IDs and other fake documents through fake websites.

“Illegal immigrants have used jungle routes and express trains to enter Indian territory,” he said. The Delhi Police official said 11 people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident of providing fake documents to Bangladeshi nationals through fake websites.

Earlier this month, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi directed the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Police to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants living in the capital and take strict action against them.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi also ordered a two-month special drive against illegal Bangladeshis. Citing multiple sources in Delhi Police, ANI said that about 1,000 illegal Bangladeshis have been identified in the city so far.
