Paresh Baruah Promises ULFA Won’t Carry out Attacks in Public Places

United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah has reacted to the hurling of grenade by ULFA cadre Bijoy Asom at a crowded Street in Zoo Road in Guwahati on 15 May. The blast had left eleven persons, including two SSB jawans, wounded. The Zoo Road locality is one of the most crowded areas and the blast was carried out during peak-traffic hours in the evening.
In a telephonic conversation with the media, the ULFA(I) leader, Paresh Baruah, has stated that he intends to cease ULFA attacks in public places could maim, or even worse, kill people of the State. The notorious ULFA cadre Bijoy Axom, had hurled the grenade at the spot. He was riding pillion on a scooty driven by Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia.
The Guwahati Police have arrested United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) pro-talks leader Pranamoy Rajguru and Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia in relation to the blast and they were presented in the court and the court has given an order for 10 days police custody.
It may be mentioned that police have also arrested ULFA-I cadres Amrit Ballav Goswami, Chinmoy Lahkar, Indra Mohan Bora, and Papu Konch Bokotiyal alias Bijoy Asom based on the inputs from Jahnabi.
It is to be mentioned that, during the period of investigation, the police have recovered one 9mm pistol, along with 25 rounds of live ammunition and two magazines from a trunk, one metal dice (suspected to be used for making explosive devices).
The police also recovered one toolbox containing various tools suspected to be used in making or fitting explosive devices, 30 kg of powdered explosive in three bags, one packet gelatine weighing about 900 grams, 5 packets of powdered black gold (vermicompost), one written speech of Arobinda Rajkhowa, President of ULFA delivered on July 27, 2016 on the occasion of the raising day of ULFA.
The investigation team also recovered Rs. 11,130 cash, one scooty, 4 pieces of solid suspected explosives, one electrical circuit for making or fitting an explosive device, etc.
