2 injured in KNF shooting in Bandarban

Members Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) has allegedly opened fire at two vehicles carrying workers constructing a road in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban.

At least two people were injured in the shooting, and four others have been missing since the incident took place on Saturday afternoon.

One of the injured workers is Md Jalal, 27, and two of the missing people are Surjo Das, 30, and Rubel, 30.

The identities of the other workers could not be confirmed yet, said Thanchi police station OC Imdadul Haque.

He said, quoting locals, that some 10-15 KNF members oped fired at the trucks after they delivered bricks at the construction site in the Lirki area.

Dr Mehnaz Fatema, a resident doctor of Thanchi Upazila Health Complex, said that the injured driver was shot six times in the chest and taken to a Bandarban hospital.

KNF headquarters’ Commander Lt Le Pabik denied the allegation of the attack in a message.

Search is underway for the four missing people.
