Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has held a monthly coordination meeting in the border town of Ramgarh in Khagrachhari to strengthen security at Durga Puja venues, maintain law and order, prevent cross-border crimes and preserve communal harmony ahead of religious festivals.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on ensuring the safety of worshippers, preventing smuggling and drug-related offences, identifying local security concerns and establishing prompt information-sharing mechanisms to address potential threats and other untoward incidents.
Organized by the 43 BGB Battalion, the monthly meeting on security, communal harmony and development was held at the Ramgarh Zone headquarters on Monday morning. Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ahsan Ul Islam, commanding officer of the Ramgarh Battalion, presided over the meeting.
The meeting brought together representatives from the security forces, police, local administration, forest department, local government and various sections of the community. Participants included the deputy commander of Ramgarh Zone, the officer-in-charge of the local police station, a representative of Bhujpur Police Station, the Ramgarh forest beat officer, local elected representatives, community leaders, headmen, karbaris, timber traders and journalists from print and electronic media.
Discussions focused on the overall security arrangements at Durga Puja venues during the ongoing and upcoming religious festivities, as well as security measures for Prabarana Purnima, an important Buddhist religious observance. Participants exchanged views on maintaining a peaceful environment throughout the festive period and ensuring that people from different religious communities could observe their respective religious occasions without disruption.
The meeting also addressed a range of security concerns affecting the border region, including cross-border crimes, smuggling, drug-related offences and other activities that could undermine public safety and stability. Participants stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among law enforcement agencies, local representatives and community members to prevent criminal activities and maintain normalcy in the area.

During an open discussion, participants highlighted various local problems and difficulties faced by residents within the battalion’s area of responsibility. The discussion underscored the need to identify these concerns at the grassroots level and coordinate with the relevant authorities to pursue practical solutions.
Presiding over the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ahsan Ul Islam urged local representatives, headmen, karbaris, businesspeople and other community stakeholders to inform the BGB promptly if they noticed any deterioration in the law and order situation or received information about a possible untoward incident.
He emphasized the importance of timely information from local communities in enabling security personnel to assess emerging risks and respond effectively. Early communication, participants noted, can help the relevant authorities address potential security threats before they escalate.
Maintaining communal harmony was another key focus of the meeting. Participants emphasized the importance of mutual respect, cooperation and peaceful coexistence among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds. They also called for vigilance against rumours and misinformation that could create confusion, provoke tensions or disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the border region.
The meeting highlighted the importance of regular communication and cooperation among the BGB, police, local administration, elected representatives and community leaders in addressing security challenges and resolving local concerns.
Such coordination meetings provide a platform for exchanging information, identifying emerging problems and strengthening cooperation between security agencies and the communities they serve. In a sensitive border region such as Ramgarh, sustained engagement with local stakeholders can also help improve the timely reporting of suspicious activities and support preventive measures against crime.
Through its regular coordination initiatives, the 43 BGB Battalion aims to reinforce border security while supporting a peaceful environment in which religious festivals can be observed safely and communities can maintain their longstanding traditions of coexistence and mutual respect.
