Bangladesh Army has installed a water tank beside Magrachhari Primary School in the remote Dulyatali Union of Lakshmichhari Upazila, Khagrachhari, in a move aimed at improving access to safe drinking water for schoolchildren, teachers and local residents.

The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 400 people, including students and teachers of the school and residents of Purba Magrachhari Para, helping ease the daily challenges of accessing water in this remote hilly community.

The water tank was formally inaugurated on Monday, October 19, by Captain Mahathir Mustafa Nabil, commander of the Dulyatali Army Camp under Lakshmichhari Zone of Guimara Region. Warrant Officer Alamgir, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the camp, school headteacher Rubel Bindu Chakma and respected members of the local community were also present.

Fifteen students and three teachers attended the inauguration ceremony, which also featured recreational sports activities for the children. The event provided an opportunity for the students to participate in activities beyond their regular classroom routine while celebrating an initiative intended to improve their daily lives.

Access to safe drinking water remains an important concern for communities in remote parts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, where difficult terrain and limited infrastructure can make essential services less accessible. For schoolchildren, the availability of water close to their classrooms is particularly important for maintaining hygiene, supporting a healthy learning environment and meeting their daily needs during school hours.

By installing the tank beside the school, the Army has taken a practical step towards reducing these difficulties for both the educational institution and the surrounding community. The facility is expected to provide a more accessible source of water for students and teachers while extending its benefits to nearby households.

Teachers, students and local residents expressed their gratitude to the Bangladesh Army for undertaking the initiative. Their appreciation reflects the importance of community-focused assistance in areas where even basic facilities can make a meaningful difference to everyday life.

For the children of Magrachhari Primary School, the new facility represents more than an addition to the school’s infrastructure. It is a step towards a more supportive learning environment, where access to an essential resource can help ease some of the practical challenges faced by students and their families.

The initiative forms part of Lakshmichhari Zone’s broader efforts to support local communities and improve living conditions in remote parts of the hill district. Alongside its responsibilities for maintaining security, the Bangladesh Army has undertaken various public welfare activities aimed at addressing the everyday needs of people living in geographically challenging areas.

Such community-oriented initiatives can also help strengthen mutual trust and cooperation between the Army and local residents by responding to practical needs at the grassroots level. In areas where access to essential services remains challenging, targeted support for schools and villages can contribute to better living conditions and stronger community relations.

The Bangladesh Army has reiterated its commitment to continuing public welfare activities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts under its motto, “In Service of the Nation.” The installation of the water tank at Magrachhari Primary School stands as a local example of efforts to ease the hardships of remote communities and bring essential facilities closer to the people who need them most.
