Bangladeshi shot in Arakan Army firing dies after 6 days

Fisherman Mohammad Hossain Ali, 50, who was shot by Myanmar’s insurgent group Arakan Army while fishing in the Naf River at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, died after six days while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The deceased Hossain Ali is the son of the late Abdush Shukkur of Balukhali village in Whykong Union.

Md. Shahadat Hossain Siraji, in-charge of the Whykong police outpost under Teknaf police station informed this on Tuesday (May 29) night.

Citing the relatives of the deceased, Shahadat Hossain Siraji said that the fisherman Hossain Ali was injured by the firing of the Arakan Army while fishing in the Naf River on May 22. The fishermen accompanied Hossain Ali rescued him and admitted him to a local hospital. From there, he was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). While undergoing treatment there, he died around 2 am on Monday. “Hossain Ali was shot in the right knee and left ankle,” he added.

However, the body of Hossain Al did not reach his house till 10 pm on Tuesday, mentioned Shahadat Hossain Siraji, saying that the family of the deceased has informed about filing a case in this regard.

Hossain Ali’s son Amir Hamza said that the autopsy of his father’s body was completed on Tuesday afternoon at CMCH Hospital’s morgue.

Border residents and local representatives said that for about 4 months, the Myanmar junta forces have been fighting with the rebel group Arkan Army over the control of Rakhine state. Arakan Army already occupied most of the border areas. For this, the people on the other side are in fear due to the explosion of shells and heavy weapons in the border area, as a result, residents are unable to farm and fish in the river.
