News Desk
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 440kg of ilish during what it suspects was an attempted smuggling near the Indian border in Comilla.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, near Monora, a border area in Brahmanpara upazila.
The commanding officer of BGB’s 60th battalion, AM Zaber Bin Jobbar, confirmed the incident.
According to a BGB source, the fish was found approximately 500 yards inside Bangladesh, near border pillar 2057/2-S in Monora. No one was found at the scene.
It is believed that the smugglers fled, leaving the fish behind upon sensing the BGB’s approach.
The estimated market value of the seized fish is Tk968,000. The fish were sold, and the proceeds were deposited into the government treasury.
