Attack on Indians outside Indian High Commission in London
News Desk:
Violent protests shook the Indian High Commission in London on Thursday. In a shocking incident, Indians were pelted with eggs, bottles, shoes and other objects outside the High Commission while they were observing the 73rd Independence Day.
The protesters, reportedly, belonged to Pakistani groups and Sikh and Kashmiri separatist outfits. They abused and raised anti-India slogans against the Indian diaspora while they gathered to celebrate the Independence Day.
According to reports, four people were arrested by Scotland Yard in this regard under Section 4 of the Public Order Act, affray, obstruction of police and possession of an offensive weapon.
Earlier, the Indian population in London celebrated India’s Independence by hoisting the Indian flag in the High Commission and felicitated members of the World Peace Rally held across 105 cities. Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Ruchi Ghanashyam, hoisted the national flag and members and, along with the Indian diaspora assembled to celebrate the event.
The recent abrogation of Article 370, bifurcating Jammu & Kashmir into two union territories is suspected to spark the tension. On Pakistan’s request to intervene on the Kashmir issue, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) today is holding a closed-door meeting to discuss the Kashmir issue and the dispute that has been going on between India and Pakistan over the years.
