Assam Youth Mafidul Hussain Arrested for Supporting Pakistani Army on Facebook
Amid heightened tensions between India and arch-rivals Pakistan after the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, Mofidul Hussain, a resident of Goalpara in Assam, was caught posting a ‘pro-Pakistan’ photo on Facebook.
As a consequence of his action, the Dhupdhara resident was apprehended for uploading a photo saluting the Pakistani army.
Confirming this, Goalpara SP Susanta Biswa Sharma, told Inside Northeast that the youth has been arrested by the authorities. “He came to the police’s notice after posting in favor of Pakistan. He has been arrested earlier in the morning today and follow up action will be taken shortly..”
It may be mentioned here that this incident has occurred at a time when tensions in Assam are at an all-time high after the recent publication of the final draft NRC on Saturday, which left out the names of over nineteen lakh people. Moreover, communal tensions are also high, with many civil bodies alleging that particular communities have been singled out for harassment by the NRC authorities.
Such incidents have become increasingly common in Assam, with the Assam Police having nabbed several youths for posting in favour of Pakistan in the wake of the Pulwama attack which left 42 CRPF jawans dead.
