Manipur: 2 Female Smugglers Arrested with 4 Kilos of Illicit Opium

Two female smugglers were arrested along with 4 kilos of illicit of opium during a raid at Pallel bazaar on the Imphal-Moreh road in Manipur at around 3 pm on Saturday.
Acting on a tip off a combined team of Kakching district district in Manipur, commandos and Thoubal district commandos led by Addl SP (OPS) Kakching, N. Netrajit under the supervision of SP of Kakching, Victoria Yengkhom, arrested 2 women from a hideout at Pallel bazaar.
Victoria Yengkhom said that the arrested female smugglers have been identified as Phallam Lhungdim (aged 36), and Lamchei Lhungdim of Old Gelmol, BPO Tuinom Khopi, Churachandpur District, and Nemneilhing Haokip (41), W/O Mangkholal Haokip of Gomi Village, Machi Sub Division, Tengnoupal district. From their possession, 4 kilos of suspected contraband opium, locally called Kani, were recovered.
They are booked under the ND&PS Act 1985 for and in police custody for further actions, the SP said.
It may be mentioned here that the drug epidemic is quite widespread in the State of Manipur, and recently, the police recovered drugs worth Rs. 400 crores. It was the biggest seizure of drugs in the Northeast Indian region.
Again, on September 6, at 7:30 pm, a Ashok Leyland truck bearing registration no. AS-01-JC-2823 was searched and three cartons were discovered hidden in the truck. Thereafter, on opening the boxes, a large quantity of narcotic substances was recovered. This consignment was worth Rs.
