Shyama Prasad Mukherji Saved Assam from Becoming a Part of Pakistan: Ram Madhav
News Desk
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Ram Madhav on 20th September (Friday) proclaimed that Shyama Prasad Mukherji had ‘saved’ Assam from becoming a part of Pakistan.
While addressing a gathering in Silchar, Madhav said that the ruling BJP party are followers of Dr Shayma Prasad Mukherji and providing adequate security to persecuted Bengalis is their tribute to the great leader from Bengal. This, Madhav stated in clear terms, they intend to do by enacting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Madhav added that since Assam was a Group-C state, it was supposed to be a part of East Pakistan during partition. However, Dr Mukherji along with Gopinath Bardoloi saved it.
Madhav reiterated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that is being pushed by the ruling BJP party, will solve the problem of citizenship for Bengali Hindus dwelling in Barak Valley.
It may be mentioned here that the Bengali community, both Muslims and Hindus, have been the worst affected by the Assam NRC, which had left out over 19 lakh people.
However, the Bill seeks to provide citizenship to minority communities from neighboring countries, including Hindus. If the Bill takes the form of a law, it is feared that the NRC exercise in Assam will be rendered largely futile.
