Myanmar expects to earn over 40 billion kyats (26.7 million U.S. dollars) from gems and jade sale which started in Nay Pyi Taw on 2nd January (Thursday), Xinhua reported.

With 1,634 merchants registering for attendance, a total of 286 gems lots and 3,695 jade lots are being put on sale at the event which is scheduled to last until next Tuesday, said Managing Director Min Thu of the Myanmar Gems Enterprise (MGE).

The MGE under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has been holding gems and jade sales in the country’s states and regions, aiming to help local merchants to produce and sell raw gems and finished products, create job opportunities and prevent illegal exports.
