Momen for producing film on Rohingya stories

Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen urged the country’s filmmakers to produce film on different stories of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas of Myanmar for creating further global sensitization about the crisis.

“I urge our talented filmmakers to make films on the Rohingya issue to spread the truth (worldwide),” he told a photography exhibition titled ‘Flash on Rohingya Genocide’ at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s National Art Gallery on Thursday (Jan 2).

A total of 120 photographs are being exhibited in the exhibition, including 57 photographs of renowned photographers KM Asad, Mahmud Hossain Opu, Suman Paul and Salahuddin Ahmed Palash, captured since 2012.

About the photographs, Momen said hundreds of stories have been narrated through the photographs in this exhibition.

The foreign minister said Bangladesh is trying to send back the Rohingya to their homeland Myanmar in a peaceful manner. “We do not want any conflict with our neighbouring countries,” he said.

Presided over by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, it was also spoken by Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman and Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, among others.

US Ambassador Earl R Miller and Sri Lankan Ambassador Crishanthe de Silva were also present.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Progressive Columnist Forum and Bhorer Kagoj organized the weeklong exhibition, which will continue till January 8.
