NSCN-IM overpower Assam Rifles in Senapati Headquarters

In a major embarrassment to the Indian Security Forces, Assam Rifles posted in Tahamzam (Senapati H/Q) clashed with the Naga Army of NSCN-IM posted in Tahamzam (Senapati H/Q). The situation erupted when personnel of the Assam Rifles led by a “Captain” started chasing some personnel belonging to the Naga Army of NSCN-IM wherein, the Assam Rifle personnel’s were overpowered by the NSCN-IM personnel in the clash leading to capturing of the group leader of the Assam Rifles – “Captain”, and weapons belonging to the Assam Rifles by NSCN-IM cadres on 20 February 2020.

The “Captain” of the Assam Rifles is released by NSCN-IM cadres upon intervention by the public on humanitarian ground, while the captured weapon belonging to the Assam Rifles was in the custody of the Naga Army of NSCN-IM.

However, after public intervention and hot discussion the seized Gun belonging to Assam Rifle was returned. The Senapati CSOs and student bodies intervened timely and compromised the incident.Assam Rifle ran away from the scene leaving their vehicle in the middle of the road when CSO of Senapati confronted them. Their vehicle was badly damaged by the CSO volunteers.

The incident happened after Assam Rifle chased some cadres NSCN-IM but later NSCN-IM cadres overpower them and captured the Captain of the Assam Rifle with his service rifle AK-47 on 20 February 2020 at Senapati Headquarter. And some personnel of Assam Rifle was beaten by the NSCN-IM cadres.

To retain the image of the Assam Rifle personnel, a cadre of NSCN-IM was arrested again by the Assam Rifle on 21 Feb 2020 and this led to the confrontation between Assam Rifle & CSO of Senapati.

Naga CSO’s asked the Assam Rifle and GoI to follow the ceasefire ground rules.
