Bangladeshi injured in landmine explosion at Naikhongchhari border

A Bangladeshi man has been injured in a landmine explosion at the border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.

Md Belal, 30, was injured in the explosion at 5am on Wednesday, confirmed Naikhongchhari Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Absar Emon.

Locals heard two explosions when Belal went near the barbed wire fence in the border area, Emon said.

Belal was later rescued and rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Residents of the area said Belal was a drug peddler and had been detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh before. He had gone to the border to smuggle yaba tablets, they claimed.

Southeast Asia Journal could not reach Naikhongchhari police station OC for comment.

Earlier, on September 16, a 22-year-old Bangladeshi lost his leg in a landmine explosion near the Tumbru border on Myanmar territory.
