The army chief returned home after visiting Gambia

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, SBP (Bar), OSP, NDU, PSC, Ph.D., has returned home after visiting Gambia.
He returned home on Friday (June 16).
During his visit, he met His Excellency President Adama Baro of Gambia, Deputy Speaker Sadie SK Nye, Chief of Defense Staff Lt. Gen. Yankuba A. Drameh, Minister of Defense Sheikh Omar Fai and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Meet Mamadou Tangara.
During the meeting with the President of Gambia, Bangladesh Army Chief thanked him on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for planning the visit and its smooth execution.
The Chief of Army Staff assured him that the Bangladesh Army will provide all kind of assistance to the fraternal Gambian Armed Forces to implement the co-deployment initiative which will serve as an example for all in future peacekeeping operations.
In a meeting with Deputy Speaker Sadie SK Nye, the Deputy Speaker expressed his government’s full support and willingness to deploy well-trained and efficient Gambian Armed Forces under the leadership of the Bangladesh Army to meet the suitability and requirements of the peacekeeping mission. Gambia’s Chief of Defense Staff emphasized on imparting practical training to the Gambian Armed Forces led by the Bangladesh Army for deployment in peacekeeping missions. He also sought the assistance of the Bangladesh Army in upgrading the overall training of the Gambian Armed Forces.
It is to be noted that this visit of the Bangladesh Army chief was held for the purpose of checking the capability of the Gambian army and determining the next approach based on the proposal of the Gambia for the deployment of a joint contingent of the Bangladesh and Gambia armies for the first time in the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
It is expected that friendly relations with Gambia and Bangladesh will be strengthened through this visit of Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.
