Army chief off to Qatar to attend Grand Prix 2023

President of Bangladesh Olympic Association and Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed left Dhaka for Qatar on Tuesday on an official visit to Qatar.
He went to the country at the invitation of Mohammed Yousef Almana, the first vice president of the Qatar Olympic Committee and President of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, according to a press release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.
During the visit, the army chief will witness the closing ceremony of the “Qatar Grand Prix-2023” to be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar on Wednesday and Thursday.
The presence of the chief of Army staff in the Qatar Grand Prix-2023 is set to inspire the participating Bangladeshi athletes.
Besides, he will participate in meetings with delegates from different countries and exchange views on various issues related to mutual sports development.
He will also hold a meeting with the Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces Lieutenant General Salem bin Hamad bin Mohammed bin Aqeel Al Nabit. This bilateral meeting will be very helpful in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Bangladesh and Qatar and improving mutual military relations between the two countries.
Chief of Army Staff SM Shafiuddin Ahmed is set to return to Bangladesh on Friday.
