Bangladesh Army condoles death of ex-army chief Atiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Army on Wednesday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former army chief Lieutenant General (retired) Md Atiqur Rahman.

Lieutenant General (retired) Md Atiqur Rahman died of heart attack at about 10:20am on Wednesday at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.

He was 92, an Inter-Services Public Relations press release said.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at 4.15pm this afternoon at the central mosque in Dhaka Cantonment.

Prime minister’s security affairs adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Navy chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, former chiefs of Bangladesh Army and senior army officials, among others, attended the namaz-e-janaza.

After his namaz-e-janaza, he was laid to eternal rest at Military Graveyard in Banani with full military honours and rituals.
