4 Arsa members detained, weapons seized

Four members reportedly of the separatist group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) has been detained by the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in the Rohingya camp at Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) reportedly detained four members of the separatist group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) along with several weapons in the Rohingya camp at Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.

The detainees are Amir Hossain, 29, Ziaur Rahman, 32, Syedul Amin, 30, and Md Harun, 22.

Mohammad Iqbal, the captain of the 14-APBn engaged in security at the Rohingya camp, provided this information in a press briefing on Sunday afternoon.

He said: “A raid was conducted from 3am-6am on Sunday in Ghayam Bagan outside the barbed wire boundary of S-1/B-7 Block of Rohingya Camp No. 20 of Ukhiya upazila.”

The APBn captain said that the detainees were members of Myanmar’s armed organization Arsa and were accused in multiple cases, including murder, kidnapping, weapons and extortion.

Iqbal also said that several teams of APBn conducted a response operation on the news that some armed people had gathered in the Rohingya camp of extension number 20 of Ukhiya upazila on Sunday morning to commit a crime.

On reaching the spot, the miscreants fired at the APBn members. APBn members also fired back in self-defence. APBn members were able to detain four miscreants while fleeing during one of the gunfights.

According to the information given by the detainees, four hand grenades, seven locally made guns, two walkie talkies with chargers, nine bullets, among other things, were seized.
