Today is the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, and like in other countries of the world, the day is also being celebrated in Bangladesh with due dignity.

The outstanding contributions of peacekeepers from all countries of the world participating in UN peacekeeping operations, will be remembered with deep respect on this day, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said in a release.

Bangladesh has undertaken various programmes to celebrate the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. The

programme of the day will begin in the morning with the remembrance of the peacekeepers.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Affairs Minister Md. Tajul Islam will inaugurate the “Peacekeeper Run-2024” as the chief guest.

Later, another programme will be organized at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital Dhaka for a reception to the close relatives of martyred peacekeepers and injured peacekeepers.

A special presentation on UN peacekeeping operations will also be presented. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the reception as the chief guest.

In the long four decades of peacekeeping history, Bangladeshi peacekeepers have successfully completed 63 UN missions in 43 countries and locations of the world.

Currently there are 6,092 peacekeepers, including 493 women peacekeepers, engaged in UN peacekeeping missions and operations in 13 countries.

A total of 168 peacekeepers of Bangladesh have been martyred in the UN peacekeeping mission since its inception.   Three injured peacekeepers are being honored this year.

Bangladesh Television and BTV World will host the live broadcast of the reception ceremony.

In order to highlight the significance of the day, special articles have been published in special supplements in different national dailies.

Special talk-shows will also be aired on various private television channels, Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.

The documentary on Bangladesh’s activities in peacekeeping will be aired on BTV and other private television channels.

Ministers,  Ambassadors and High Commissioners of various countries stationed in Bangladesh, UN Resident Coordinator, Chiefs of the three armed  forces, parliamentarians, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces, Inspector General of Police, among others,  will attend the reception programme in honor of the martyred and injured peacekeepers.

Senior officials of the Foreign Ministry, media personalities and senior military and civilian officials will also be present at the event.
