Fire ravages scenic Sajek

At least 70 resorts and cottages were burnt to ashes at Sajek Valley under Baghaichari upazila in Rangamati district on Monday.

The fire broke out around 1:00 PM at Ruilui tourist spot in the area.

According to a local union parishad member, the fire has spread to more than 70 resorts and cottages as of 5 PM.

However, no casualties have been reported.

A member of Sajek Resort Cottage Owners’ Association, Idra Jeet Chakma said that the fire originated at Sajek Montana Resort, later, spread to nearby households, resorts and cottages in the afternoon which left at least 70 resorts and cottages burnt.

Hundreds of tourists came out of their resorts and cottages in panic at the time.

However, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akter said that fire fighters from Dighinala Fire Station rushed to the spot and fighting the fire.

Earlier, locals and Army personnel tried to douse the blaze but failed.
