Response to false reports about Bangladesh Army by some Indian media

The Bangladesh Army has noted with deep concern the intensity of recent baseless and baseless reports published by some Indian media outlets, including The Economic Times and The India Today, which have suggested a coup within the Bangladesh Army and a possible breakdown in the chain of command. These reports are completely false and appear to be part of a deliberate disinformation campaign aimed at tarnishing the stability and reputation of Bangladesh and its armed forces.

We state clearly that the Bangladesh Army is strong, united and fully committed to discharging its constitutional duties under the able leadership of the Army Chief. The chain of command is strong and all members of the Bangladesh Army, including senior generals, are steadfast in their loyalty to the Constitution, the chain of command and the people of Bangladesh. Any allegation of disunity or disloyalty within the ranks is completely fabricated and malicious.

It is particularly worrying that The Economic Times has repeatedly indulged in such disinformation campaigns. Just a month before the publication of this latest report, the same media outlet published a similar false report on January 26, 2025. Such behavior raises serious questions about the motives and credibility of these media outlets. Moreover, several online portals and some vile and disrespectful television channels have also propagated this falsehood, which has further strengthened the misleading campaign. Instead of adhering to the principles of responsible journalism, they seem to be acting as a tool to spread misinformation and create distrust between the Bangladesh Army and the people of Bangladesh.

We call upon these media outlets, especially those based in India, to adhere to good journalistic practices and refrain from publishing unverified and sensational stories. It is hoped that they should seek comments and clarifications from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) before publishing such reports. The ISPR is always available to provide accurate and official information about the Bangladesh Army.

The Bangladesh Army remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the sovereignty, integrity and security of the nation. We call on all media outlets to act responsibly and refrain from spreading false information that causes unnecessary tension and confusion.
