Barak Organisation demands 15 MLA seats for Ingidenous People of Barak

Assam Indigenous People Protection Committee (AIPPC), a Barak Valley-based organization has demanded 15 MLA seats to be reserved for the Indigenous People of Barak valley.

They have also demanded that 2 member of parliament seats reserved for the indigenous also reservation in Zila Parishad, Gram Panchayat and AP.

The AIPPC have also demanded re-verification of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the region for an error-free NRC.

Saheb Rajbongshi, president, AIPPC said that many indigenous people were left out from the NRC which was published on August 31, 2019. These people should be included in the list without any condition. “We will never go the foreigners’ tribunal in any condition”, he said.

He further added, “All the indigenous people of Barak Valley support the government’s stand to implement the clause 6 of the Assam Accord. This is the need of an hour to save the indigenous people.”

He claimed that most of the illegal migrants in Assam were also included in the NRC and so they have demanded a full re-verification of the NRC.

It may be mentioned that on Saturday, National Register of Citizens (NRC) authorities of Assam have finally published the list showing the fates of all 3.30 crore applicants who were part of the NRC activities in Assam. The list has been published online. The list was meant to root out illegal immigrants in the state.

The latest list has been published after 19 lakh applicants were excluded from the final NRC released on August 31. This final list includes the names of those who have been accepted as citizens, and also those who have been rejected and those whose appeals are pending. Interestingly, the new list will also allow individuals to check on the statuses of their family members.
