Meghalaya Police Recovers Huge Consignment of Arms, Ammunitions and Contraband Items

Meghalaya Police have recovered huge quantity of arms, ammunition and contraband items from vehicles that were plying from Silchar through the state.

A two-day special operation was conducted by a joint team of ANTF East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat Police Station, Lumshnong Police Station and Ladrymbai Out Post on Wednesday and 17th October (Thursday).

The team conducted a thorough search of all the commercial vehicles plying through the district from Silchar from around 3.00 pm on Wednesday and concluded at around 8.00 am on Thursday morning.

During the operation, the team recovered 45 packets of gelatin sticks weighing approx. 112.5 Kg, 5900 detonators packed in boxes and approx. 133 meters detonating cord (Cordtex) that was carried in six bags belonging to two passengers travelling in a night super bus bearing registration number AS-24C-2829. The bus was travelling from Karimganj towards Guwahati.

The team arrested the two passengers and on interrogation, they revealed that they were taking the explosives to Karbi-Anglong district of Assam

Following this, a case was registered at Khliehriat PS with Case No. 161(10)19 u/s 5/6 under The Explosive Substances Act 1908 R/W Sec 9-B of The Explosives Act, 1884. Investigations are on in the case.

Another night super bus, bearing registration number AS-01JC-0979, travelling from Agartala towards Guwahati was intercepted at Khliehriat. The team recovered contraband items suspected to be Ganja weighing approx. 21 Kgs from two bags belonging to the two passengers. The consignment was being carried to Bihar for sale as revealed by the accused on interrogation.

A case vide Khliehriat PS Case No. 162(10)19 u/s 8(c)/20(b)/29 NDPS Act has been registered in relation to this case.

Moreover, the team also recovered contraband items weighing approximately 0.74 grams suspected to be heroin and 260 mg of Nitrazepam tablets from a person travelling in a commercial TATA sumo taxi bearing registration number ML-04A-522. On interrogation, the person revealed that he purchased the items from Kalain, Assam for self-use as well as sale.
