4 NDFB (S) Ultras Arrested for Extortion in Assam

Three National Democratic Front of Boroland (Sangbijit) cadres have been arrested on the allegation of extortion activities in Baksa district of Assam.

The cadres were arrested after complaints from a local, Belifang Mushahary. After receiving complaints from the man, local police along with army launched an operation, at the end of which the militants were arrested.

Two of the cadres were arrested from Baihata Chariali while they were there to collected extortion money. The cadres have been identified as Dhaneswar Bodo alias SDB, and Raju Swargiary alias ‘Boga’.

Based on Goreswor Police Station FIR no. 124/19 and 387, the personnel arrested the cadres under the supervision of Suwagpur Police Station I/C Rajen Boro.

The NDFB (S) cadre had reportedly demanded money on October 8. After interrogating the arrested cadres, the authorities were able to nab Thandei Boro and Bijoy alias Hiru. The police and army are continuing the crackdown against these reported incidents of extortion in the State.

It is to be mentioned that Baksa district is an administrative district in Bodoland Territorial Area, Assam, an autonomous council in one of the Northeastern states of India. Baksa was notified as one of the districts of Bodoland Territorial Council in October 2003 while it started functioning from 1 June 2004 when naturalist-bureaucrat Dr Anwaruddin Choudhury of the Assam Civil Service took charge as its founding Deputy Commissioner. This district is bounded by Bhutan in the north, Udalguri district in the east, Barpeta, Nalbari and Kamrup districts in the south and Chirang district in the west.
