The government has extended the magistracy power given to commissioned army officers for another 60 days.

In a circular issued on Friday, the public administration ministry said officers on deputation in Bangladesh Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh will also be able to exercise the magistracy power.

The circular says their jurisdiction for exercising magistracy power will be all over Bangladesh.

The 60-day countdown will start from the circular issuance date.

Earlier on September 17, the government gave the power of magistracy to commissioned army officers for 60 days to improve law and order.

The officers will act as executive magistrates across the country.

An officer with magistracy power can arrest and send an individual to jail. In self-defence, the officer can open fire.
