Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that any decision to hold discussions on the Rohingya issue with the Arakan Army or the Myanmar government depends entirely on the government’s discretion.
He made the remarks during a briefing after inspecting the Naf River border in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar on Monday afternoon.
Addressing the press at the Damdamiya BWTA Ghat area, the adviser emphasized the need for a collective effort to eradicate drugs and suppress brokers operating along the border.
“Drugs are not just a problem for Teknaf; it is an issue that affects the entire country. Mosques should highlight the evils of drugs in their sermons during Jumma Khutba,” he added.
Commenting on the border situation and the ongoing Rohingya crisis, he said: “Due to the instability in Myanmar, fishing in the Naf River remains suspended. Once the situation normalizes, fishing activities will resume.”
Earlier on Monday morning, the home adviser, accompanied by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) director general and other officials, arrived in Teknaf via helicopter from Tejgaon Old Airport.
The team inspected the operations of the Teknaf Battalion, Damdamia Border Outpost (BOP), and Naf River patrols.
